Ezokhetho presents: Entathakusa — At Dawn
Ezokhetho’s latest collection, Entathakusa, takes its name from the Zulu term meaning “at dawn.” The collection unfolds as a deeply personal reflection from designer Mpumelelo Dhlamini, capturing a season of transition, healing, and renewal.
“Over the past year, I’ve been going through a lot of change,” Dhlamini shares. “Restarting my journey with therapy made me realise that I’m no longer the person I was. Entathakusa became a way for me to process that — to grieve my parents, certain friendships and relationships, and the parts of myself I’ve had to release. It’s about learning to let go of what’s familiar and finding the courage to step into the unknown, trusting that God will lead me into something greater.”
Entathakusa draws inspiration from the stillness and anticipation of dawn - that quiet space before sunrise where darkness begins to fade and light starts to break through. The collection embodies this moment of becoming, where endings and beginnings exist side by side.
The collection debuted on 25 October at SA Menswear Week / The Week of Fashion in Cape Town, where it was met with an intimate yet electric energy that mirrored its message of renewal. Visually, the story unfolds through a colour palette that moves between deep and bright tones — navy, brown, candy blue and pink; echoing the shift from night to morning light. Prints play between seriousness and playfulness, while the silhouettes experiment with shape, texture, and proportion. Each piece balances familiarity and boldness, reflecting the uncertainty and excitement that come with transformation.
Styling details such as durags, athletic sunglasses, and matte plate jewelry add an urban edge that grounds the collection in the present moment. Together, they create a mood that feels both introspective and hopeful — mysterious yet alive with promise. Entathakusa — At Dawn is a story about release and faith, about trusting the process of becoming. It reminds us that light always returns, and with it, a new beginning.
