MX BLOUSE | IS'PHUKPHUKU

Mx Blouse | Is’phukphuku

May 2, 2018 marked a year since Mx Blouse dropped their rap-heavy debut EP ‘Believe the Bloom’. They have since charted a new sonic direction with vernacular raps, and a Kwaito and Gqom infused sound.

The first single to showcase this new direction is “Is’phukphuku”, a Zulu term that aptly translates to “idiot”. On the track, they collaborate with fellow artists and producers Thor Rixon, Jakinda of the Stiff Pap duo and Albany Lore.

The lyrical content of the track is a reflection on free expression and the probably idealistic notion of safe spaces in social settings. The accompanying music video, directed and edited by Jarred Figgins, is styled by Peter Georgiades and features Mx Blouse decked out exclusively in South African fashion, including the likes of ALC Man, Nicholas Coutts, with jewellery by Stefany Roup and Lorne.
